Ricardo Ribeiro

  • The “once heard, never forgotten” voice of Ricardo Ribeiro is one of the unmissable names in contemporary Fado. Born and raised in Bairro da Ajuda, he began singing at the age of 9. He has performed at several Fado houses, some of which he still performs at on a monthly basis.

In 2023, he released “Terra Que Vale O Céu”, an album that marks Ricardo Ribeiro’s return to Fado after a foray into world music in 2019, with Respeitosa Mente. In this new album, he reinterprets some well-known Fados such as Acácio, Azenha and Franklim and sings verses and melodies by notable Portuguese lyricists and musicians such as Fernando Tordo, Amélia Muge, Maria do Rosário Pedreira, Nuno Júdice and Carminho.

Well-known in the world of world music - both for his collaboration with the Lebanese Rabih Abou-Khalil and for his own work - Ricardo Ribeiro has performed on stages all over the world: Italy, France, Belgium, Morocco, the United States and Canada, Austria, England, Russia, Iran, Jordan, Mexico, France, Spain, Finland, among others.

With a voice that makes us face life and death in one breath, Ricardo Ribeiro continues to mark his path in a middle ground between traditional fado and the future of the style.
